Best practices in vineyard management are no less fundamental than the delicate work in the winery. Work that starts from choosing the rootstock clones that characterize our vineyards, at Vivai Cooperativi Rauscedo (VCR) – the world's largest and most respected grapevine nursery based in the heart of the Grave del Friuli district. The main goal is to ensure the reliability of the quality of the wines.
Strict quality controls are carried out at every stage of the entire wine-making process. From the fruit to the bottle. We only make wine from our own grapes. It is a question of guaranteeing a reliable product, of consumer correctness and not less importantly of respect for the land that sustains us.
The 30 hectares of vineyards that make up the crown jewel estate of Pighin sit on the hills of the Collio Goriziano appellation, internationally recognized as one of the most suitable white wine growing areas. Neat terraced rows of vines curve gracefully along the hillside to form a natural amphitheatre around the winery, which was updated to the highest standards to celebrate the wonders of the harvest.
The 160 hectares of vineyards that lie in the plain area, included in the Friuli Grave DOC, are the most substantial portion of the Pighin properties. Risano is where the corporate head offices are and where the modern winery, which is a symbol of high standard quality and technical innovation, was built in 1968 according to the design by architect Gino Valle.
Set in magnificent gardens and surrounded by the lush vineyards of Risano, the seventeenth-century villa is the Pighin representative headquarters. Once the residence of a noble family of Friuli, today the villa also houses the guest quarters where guests are comfortably accommodated. The villa offers an insight into the authentic Friulian tradition of winemaking; the historical cellars where the reds are aged are a tangible proof.
